It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to Doc Halliday, a cherished member of the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT) family. For over five decades, Doc served as the tournament's dedicated Scorekeeper and Weighmaster, leaving an indelible mark on the event and the sport fishing community.

Doc's unwavering commitment to the HIBT spanned more than 50 years, during which he played a pivotal role in upholding the tournament's integrity and traditions. His expertise and meticulous attention to detail ensured fair competition and accurate record-keeping, contributing significantly to the event's prestigious reputation in the world of sport fishing
Professional Life and Community Involvement
Beyond his contributions to the HIBT, Doc was a successful realtor in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He dedicated himself to helping families find their dream homes, building lasting relationships within the community. His commitment to service extended beyond real estate; he actively participated in local events and initiatives, embodying the spirit of aloha that defines Hawaiian culture. Doc was also a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving his country with honor and dedication. His experiences during the war shaped his character and deepened his appreciation for community and camaraderie. As a family man, Doc was deeply devoted to his wife, Virginia, and their family. He cherished time spent with loved ones, often sharing the beauty of Hawaii’s natural landscapes and the joy of fishing with them. His love for fishing was not just a hobby but a passion that connected him to the ocean and the community he adored
